Christmas Party for Children Who Discovered Deceased Mom & Friends

December 11, 2019, Detroit, Michigan – While most children are excited about Christmas and wondering what Santa has in store for them this year, Kissiah Edwards, 8 and her sister Laveah Edwards, 10 are dealing with the trauma of discovering their mom and three friends on the floor of their home on Sunday, December 8th. Their mother and two of the friends were pronounced dead from a suspected overdose.

The girl’s father, Cameron Edwards now has custody but is struggling to find a larger place to live and provide much needed items for the girls. All of their clothing, shoes, toys, personal items are locked in the mom’s home which investigators believe is contaminated with Fentanyl and due to the investigation won’t be accessible for thirty days or more.

Dave’s Choice Community Development Corporation & Helping Hands for Detroit are hosting a Christmas party for the girls on Saturday, December 22, 2019 from 5-7 pm at The Place to Be, 19602 Grand River in North Rosedale Park, Detroit. “This is a time to show these young girls and their dad that the community cares and we are here to help them through this tragedy,” says founder Dave Bishop. The public is invited to stop by and bring a Christmas gift or donate clothing; girls sizes 12 & 14, shoe sizes 5 1/2 & 6 or donate personal items. Light refreshments will be served.
